About Me

I am a mother of three boys (three boys, being punished for my sins!) and have been a fan of photography for years. I started shooting weddings seriously about five years ago. With the arrival of my twins, I decided to reduce my working hours in order to spend more time at home with my boys. Using photography to make up for the loss of income was a natural progression.

This is where you will be able to catch regular excerpts of what I am up to...

I know there is nothing more boring for brides than reading through stories of "my kids are so wonderful", so onto something much more exciting; the wedding of Yolandie and Westley. Another mighty fine-looking couple (I promise they are not models I hired!), another great venue, and another great celebration! Tanja and I got up at some outrageous hour of the morning to board our flight to Durban...a breeze for me (I have 15-month-olds), though, not so easy for Tanja...the pre-toddler phase being but a faded memory. So, off to Durban - and not a beach in sight! We were welcomed by both families with open arms and were almost in a time zone - you know, the days where everything takes longer and things were made to last. The days of cupcakes, Frank Sinatra, a vintage MG and romantic music. Who said romantic weddings have to be boring? Landie and Wes are the picture-perfect, storybook couple, probably the nicest, kindest people you could ever meet...and both damn good looking...Life just isn't fair! Their day was truly special and I am glad we both had the opportunity to experience it! OK..STOP! ...enough of this "gushy" "mushy" loooove stuff!...onto the photographs: wedding-photographer-01.jpg wedding-photographer-26.jpg wedding-photographer-23.jpg wedding-photographer-21.jpg wedding-photographer-22.jpg wedding-photographer-24.jpg wedding-photographer-25.jpg

Anne:

OK how about I start paying you just to look at the pics!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Stunning!!!!!! Mzuri sana!!!!!!!!!!!! (swahili)

Your assistants and DH have to be the luckiest people....I could look at these all day as a matter of fact I already looked at them 3 times already in the last 30 minutes!

I keep thinking with each wedding you shoot this must be the wedding of the year....and sure enough you surprise on the next shoot! Have to say for a photographer that is an amazing "problem" to have.......

I can't get enough! WOW!!!!!!!!!! WOW!!!!!!!!!

(02.28.08 @ 03:47 PM)
andreac1:

Yip it is a HUGE problem!....get nervous with each wedding as I want to get keep on getting better images...and it doesn't help when the couples keep on looking like rockstars!

(02.28.08 @ 08:44 PM)
andreac1:

Oh and btw DH is totally disinterested in weddings and photography, sad but true...that is why the selection process takes so long, I have no immediate 'bounceboard'...and I am so terrible at narrowing down...would post 20 pics from each wedding if left to me own devices! I have a BPC (A Blog Post Consultant) which is not DH!!

(02.28.08 @ 08:54 PM)
Anne:

No need to get nervous at all with these kind of images.....DH does not know what he is missing....the pics always uplift me

Have looked at them now I can't even count how many times...They are just AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!! But pic #2 I mean seriously that pic is very very artistic and very unique!!!!!!!! I can't even put it into words so will just leave it at FAN-FREAKING-TASTIC!!!!!!!!

(02.29.08 @ 04:53 PM)
Audrey D.:

#2 is also my favorite. But all of the photos are fantastic. Great job once again Andrea.

(03.01.08 @ 12:21 AM)
Kate:

You know if you did post 20 pics (or more) from each wedding we would all be thrilled, right?

(03.01.08 @ 11:52 AM)
Jules Morgan:

No 2 is one of the most awesome images I've seen in a while... VERY much a cracker!

(03.01.08 @ 05:41 PM)
andreac1:

Thanks Jules..
I know Kate but then the numbers go up...I then end up editing 60 pics...because I can't choose!!
..and DH gets very annoyed with my constant plea's for which one he prefers..."You're a photographer? why are you asking me ...you should know which one is a better shot"....Yes I know but which one do you prefer!

Apologies. A bit late with this post, but had some IT glitch interfere with my good intentions of posting this wedding last week...confession; that's why you had to endure yet another "midget" update last week. Onto Laura and Stephen's wedding, I was really, really, R..E..A..L..L..Y looking forward to this one!! Why I hear you ask? Was it the venue?......NOPE! Was it that you knew Laura's dress was going to be spectacular?....OOOH NOO! Was it the fact that Stephen's dad is some famous international cricketer?.....NADA! That Stephen, himself, is some well-known cricketer for the Lions......NAY! Maybe, that Laura is Matt's sister (Matt and Eva) and the speeches are bound to be funny (English wit)?....WRONG AGAIN! The real reason.....a lot more logical than cricket.  I was looking forward to spending 11 hours watching ... sigh ...Stephen!   Sorry Laura, although you are gorgeous, and looked absolutely stunning,  you are just not my type!  Thank you for letting us share this special day and trusting us to capture your memories. You are both as beautiful inside, as out, with BIG hearts! wedding-johannesburg01.jpg wedding-johannesburg02.jpg wedding-johannesburg031.jpg  wedding-johannesburg041.jpg wedding-johannesburg051.jpg

Beautiful photographs once again Andrea. You always seem to have gorgeous brides and grooms. I'm so jealous. Are you sure these two lovebirds above are not models? I know they're not but they ought to be. And oh, the first two pics are my favorite. I really love the b&w ceremony pic. Lovely.

I acted as a second shooter for a friend last weekend. It was only for a couple of hours, so I did not get a chance to really meet Alex and Lauren . . . and I spend a good part of the day being a school teacher ordering people about! I will say if, there was a category in the Guiness Book of Records, for the most number of 'formals' shot in 27 minutes our names would be there, in flashing lights!  I just wish I had so much authority with my kids! I do not really feel qualified enough to comment on their day, just a post of my favourite images. wedding-photography.jpg wedding-photography-02.jpg wedding-photography-03.jpg wedding-photography-04.jpg  wedding-photography-05.jpg

I really have to agree with Anne. These pictures are amazing. I personally love the door shot with the bride and groom. And the light. Wow. Are these all captured in natural light Andrea? Again, amazing pics.

(02.06.08 @ 03:54 AM)
andreac1:

A friend:

They do look fantastic - just wanted to add that the location for the portrait shoot and 'the styling' were all organised by Andrea, and the entire thing was done in .... errrrm ... lets just say less than ideal timeframe i.e. that sun was dropping faster than the rand.

(02.06.08 @ 05:46 AM)
Jules Morgan:

Wow, these are STUNNING, all crackers! I was going to say I especially love the first one but they are all awesome!

We have had continous rain, on and off, for the past three weeks; not the sporadic and dramatic afternoon showers that we are used to, but that grey consistant-drizzle that just lasts the whole day...just depressing. So, it was a sigh of relief to see that the clouds had dispersed for Andrew and Tracy's wedding. Tracy, who is 7 months pregnant, wanted a small intimate breakfast wedding....which to me was just perfect.... small, intimate and beautiful.... my type of wedding! What I personally love about small weddings is that all the guests there are the very, very most important and closest friends and family members and it just makes the occasion extra special. No more babbling, here are my favourite pics of the day: wedding-photographer-01.jpg  wedding-photographer-021.jpg wedding-photographer-03.jpg portfolio01a.jpg

A groom in a wheelchair and a second shooter with a neckbrace...I kid you not!! Apologies to all the romantics out there expecting a better "more flowery" description, and  sorry John/sorry Ursula..... but that, I am afraid, is the best I can come up with... I blame "Photojourn". You must also understand John flew in, with Ursula, all the way from Oz to break his femur (at his batchelor's), to get hitched in South Africa.  Sympathy, for me, is a word in a dictionary that falls under "s" so the broken leg and neckbrace were simply "new challenges" I had to work with.  John had one good leg and Dror's fingers (barring the neckbrace) were still intact! In ten years time, when John and Ursula look back at the pics, I am sure they will laugh - John may even cry. And, I do take my hat off to John, who probably endured a bit of pain in order to give Ursula a few wheelchair-free pics.  Yes, I admit, the photographer was an 'unsympathetic wench'.  I know the "sympathy levels " required by my boys  (Dear Hubbie definitely included here!) at a mere sniffle or sneeze, so I do realise I may have fallen short on this side!! A quick note on the images before I post.  I have just finished designing an album where not only have I been fixated with colour, but also with "threes". Featuring a series of images on a page, that have either been shot consecutively or, that comprise the same mood threading them together. Over the festive season, I finally got a chance to meet a friend and got to see her wedding album (ceremony in the UK). I must say, without doing the "plumber routine", I am really amazed how many photographers do not put any effort into "threading" the wedding story together - just haphazardly whacking a few images together on a page. So I'm posting a three-image set that, to me, are "tied together" by the red brickwork...I would have these images on a double-page spread. joburg-wedding01.jpg joburg-wedding02.jpg joburg-wedding03.jpg

Hi Andrea. First time blogger in your site. I just wanted to say that your images are AWESOME. The colors are so rich and just beautiful. I like your style. I'm also wondering if you have any advice for aspiring wedding photographers like myself. I would just like to absorb as much as I could from other great photographers. Thanks and have a wonderful 2008.
